Dr. Ascherman is Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery and a Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center. He attended Harvard University where he obtained a B.A. degree with honors in Engineering Sciences. Following this, he received his M. D. from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, and he then completed his general and plastic surgery training at the Columbia University Medical Center. In addition, he completed a craniofacial fellowship at Hopital Necker Enfants Malades in Paris.

Dr. Ascherman is an experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has published over 75 scientific articles and chapters, and has presented his work at a number of national and international meetings. He is a member of numerous plastic surgery societies, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, and the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons where he is President-Elect. Dr. Ascherman currently serves as Principal Investigator for the U.S. multi-center AirXpander trial examining a new type of remote control breast tissue expander that is self-controlled and filled with CO2 rather than saline. He has been an active participant in humanitarian surgical missions, and has traveled numerous times to China as well as to South America to perform volunteer surgeries.
