Tibor Gyorgy Kovacs, was born in Kolozsvar, Transylvania in 1964 and has two children. He graduated from the University of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences Kolozsvar (Cluj) and received his specialist training in general and thoracic surgery in Budapest, Hungary. He has been appointed as a junior specialist in surgery (1994).

Dr. Tibor Kovacs received his training in breast cancer surgery and surgical oncology at the National Institute of Oncology from Budapest, followed by further training in breast reconstruction and oncoplastic mentorship at South Manchester University Hospitals and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital Breast Units.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng.) since 2006 , Fellow of the European Board of Surgery (FEBS) in Surgical Oncology and Breast Surgery.

He became President-elect of the European Society of Surgical Oncology in September 2016.

Between 2005 and 2010, as a Consultant and Lead Clinician at Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales, he developed and established a new breast reconstructive service and promoted innovative techniques in breast cancer management (radio guided surgery, dermal flap based breast reconstruction).

From these years he achieved excellent clinical outcomes and high patient satisfaction by establishing the Sentinel Node Biopsy technique and offering immediate and delayed reconstructive options (implant based and LD flap reconstructions) for his patients.

Mr Kovacs is a regular Examiner in Surgical Oncology and Breast Subspecialty for the European Union of Medical Specialists, and Director and Faculty member on regular European Breast Cancer and Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Courses and Masterclasses.

He is the Associate Editor for Breast of the European Journal of Surgical Oncology.

Currently Dr. Kovacs is a Consultant breast and oncoplastic surgeon at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and  Honorary Senior Lecturer in Postgraduate Education at King’s College London.

His ethos and goal is to offer an individually tailored care for his patients, that matches the needs and personal choice of women presenting with breast breast cancer.

Mr Kovacs believes in the evidence-based approach to breast cancer management, focusing on principles of surgical oncology and oncoplastic surgery, where cosmetics are same as important as the efficient treatment of disease.
